YOGA BASICS WEEKEND INTENSIVE at Heart of Yoga School, 9/1 & 9/2, 1-3:30pm

Have you wanted to try yoga but you’ve been intimidated by the Sanskrit names of the poses, the unfamiliar sequences, or thought you weren’t flexible enough? Or, would you like to move more slowly, with more attention to each pose? In this weekend intensive, we’ll demystify and explore the most common yoga poses, learn proper alignment, move with great care and concern for our own unique bodies, and emphasize the importance of finding what works in your body and taking care of yourself. In a totally non-competitive and informal classroom, there will be time for lots of questions and help with developing your own personal practice to do at home if you wish (in as little as seven minutes daily as taught by Mark Whitwell).  We’ll also discuss the basics of yoga philosophy, including the different paths one can take based upon one’s temperament, and the basic dilemma presented by Patanjali in The Yoga Sutras—how do we overcome the false feeling of disconnection and obtain a unified, peaceful state?  We’ll explore how ideas from The Yoga Sutras (e.g., contentment, non-harming, being of service, and mindfulness) can be relevant and incorporated into our lives every day.
