Still a few spaces in Yoga 101, Wed., April 29-June 17, 2015!

Designed for brand-new beginners of all ages and students desiring a refresher on the basics, this eight-week series at Carrboro Yoga Company is one of my favorite classes to teach! It provides a broad overview of yoga asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), basic yoga philosophy, and simple meditation practices. You’ll leave feeling confident and ready to jump right in to a Gentle, Alignment, or Flow Yoga class or continue on to Yoga 102. And you’ll have a bunch of new friends!

We kick off the series by learning some important basic principles of alignment for yoga, how yoga classes are generally structured, a discussion of why your breath is so important to this practice, and how to begin to balance effort and relaxation.

Interactive and informal, this class is taught in a seminar-style format, with plenty of time for questions, discussion, and laughter. Each week, we begin by checking in to make sure all your questions from the previous week’s material are answered, then build on the material learned previously, exploring several new yoga postures and a new breathing or meditation practice as well as a short piece of yoga philosophy or history. Each session ends with guided or quiet relaxation. You’ll receive a weekly email with a recap of the previous week’s class, short practices you can do at home, and a heads-up regarding what to expect the next week.

No yoga experience, certain level of physical flexibility, or specific body type required! All are welcome. Yoga is for you. We will find ways to adapt the practice to your body when needed. The postures were designed to serve you, not the other way around.

There is an 18-person maximum in this class, so sign up in advance to hold your space! If you have questions please e-mail me at or submit the form below.

Testimonials from the March, 2015 session:

“I went into this class not liking yoga and this course totally changed my mind. I actually really like it now and look forward to taking more yoga classes. Nicole is a great teacher. Thank you!!” — C.F.

“Nicole is very personable, funny, and knowledgeable. She was easy going and always open to answering questions and providing individual feedback to students.” — anonymously submitted
